In 2003, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 13yrs old. It was a moment that forever affected my family's life. With my mother now having to take time away from work to focus on treatment and her overall health, my father was the sole provider during this time. My siblings and I were given the news of my mother's diagnosis, and handled it as best as we could. Months passed and our parents sat us down before the holidays and told us that "Christmas" would have a different look this year. We were notified that there would be no presents under the tree this year, because we simply couldn't afford it during this time. As kids, that can be a heartbreaking reality in the moment, but we were still more concerned with our mother's health. Unbeknownst to us, the AAU team that I played for was working behind the scenes to make our Christmas wish list come true. One of the fathers of my teammates showed up at our house Christmas morning dressed as Santa Claus and brought us Christmas gifts that the entire team and their families had purchased for us. That was forever a special memory for not only my family, but especially for me. I always vowed to try to do the same for others if I was ever able to have that type of platform. This foundation is my heart and soul, rooted from that very special act my basketball family was able to impact my immediate family with. I'm very passionate about being able to provide assistance to those in need!
